Nanokings

About This Game

Nanokings is a rogue-lite infused game where you try to survive the onslaught of evolved beasts and viking tribes augmented by steampunk machinery. Increase your power by collecting mysterious powders that allow you to choose items or upgrades in the norse dystopia of Myrkrafjordur.

Boss fights

Boss fights involve huge creatures or vikings equipped with the craziest armours and powerful steampunk augmentations. Watch out for their abilities and mobs they summon. If you can kill them you will progress to the next stage or keep on fighting until the next boss appears.

Each run is different

Each character has their own main weapon, and can choose from a random pool of items at the start. Along the way you collect new weapons and items from slaying enemies, finding new attachments and breaking objects for different rewards. Procedurally generated maps will give you a different feel each time while finding caves, exploring the plains and entering portals to different areas of the world.

Deep progression

Characters have different skill trees and permanent power ups can be unlocked after each run. Finding the right item builds and power up combination is the only way of getting through the story and difficulty levels, unveiling more of the world of Myrkrafjordur to explore with every run!

Story

In the year 2082, vikings had successfully reached world domination. Despite their technological advancements, the human race could not be saved. Starvation and wars were precisely how humanity met its end.

The game takes place 307.500 years later. Clouds thickened and thunderstorms became more frequent, creating an illusion of long nights and short days. Humans would only have three to four hours of sunlight before being met with the cruel, cold night.

After many centuries of extinction, humanity makes a comeback – stronger and taller than ever before. This time, mother nature was not kind enough to rid the world of dangerous creatures that roamed the earth. Now with heavily evolved animals that took thousands of centuries to reclaim their throne, humans are placed in the lowest part of the food chain. These creatures evolved not only in strength and numbers, but with the instinct to kill humans, who had nearly destroyed the earth.

Humanity went back into the tribal days and discovered artefacts that depicted memories of Nordic legends. They strive with the hope that the earth will rise from darkness. Each tribe has their own beliefs in morality that evidently will cause trouble in the future. If it’s not the man-hating animals that humans have to look out for, it’s definitely each other.

Inspirations

The game is inspired by Vampire Survivors, Warhammer 40k, Warhammer Age of Sigmar, Lost Castle, and Gunfire Reborn as we are big fans of these four games and wanted to honour them all. Vampire Survivors has a deep roguelite game system with instant rewards and a casual gameplay that helps pass time while having fun. Gunfire is a more intense fps roguelite co-op game system with deep weapons, items, and replay ability that has many unpredictable events. Every run is unique and satisfying, and we aspire to create a game with that same feeling. We want to say a huge thank you to the games that inspired us to make this happen.
